According to Wikipedia, Steampunk is “a genre that originated during the 1980s and early 1990s and incorporates elements of science fiction, fantasy, alternate history, horror, and speculative fiction.“ But for those in the know, steampunk is more than just a genre. It’s a design aesthetic and a philosophy.
Steampunk as a design movement combines elements of retro structure with futuristic style. Or more precisely, Victorian aesthetics and high technology, adhering to the genre’s concept of incorporating modern invention into an old world setting (e.g., steam-powered gadgets and weaponry).
