Outdoing the Competition with Better Posters

The chances are good that right now your competitor has a marketing campaign going on right now to attract your customers to their business! Now is not the time to hesitate in uncertainty, now is the time to take action to keep your customers and gain some new ones! How, you ask? Simply by out-doing your competition with better posters.

The number one key to success with a print poster campaign is to create a design that appeals to your target audience. The colors, style, and overall look of your poster need to catch the eye of your target audience and create a favorable impact. The purpose of your print poster will also help define its look. A poster advertising a concert will not have the same design constraints that a print poster for a nationwide sales event.

Grabbing the attention of your audience as they pass by your poster can be a challenge. Design elements such as color, large font, a striking image, or other graphic elements are often used to attract attention.

  • Color – a full color or one color poster can make a noticeable impression, but it is important to consider the environment your poster will be displayed in as well. If your print poster will be hung in an area with a multitude of other posters and flyers, it might be a good idea to use a bright background color, or use brightly colored font and images in a white or black background.
  • Large font – font that is used as a piece of your attention-grabbing element needs to be large, visible from ten feet away, and an easy-to-read style. Your main message needs to be short and to the point. You will only have a few seconds for readers to absorb the message as well as a limited amount of space for such a large font size.
  • Graphic images – photographs and other images add visual interest to your print poster, which is important to the overall impact of your message. An image can also convey a message to passers-by in much less time than written words can. The old saying “a picture says a thousand words” holds true in print poster design.

Once you have your print poster designed, be sure to use a quality printing company to produce a high quality advertisement to represent your business. And remember to choose heavy paper stock and strong protective coating so that your posters last longer than the competitors’ posters, no matter the environment in which you hang them.
